TBPTE Adds New Step to the License Renewal Process
The Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners (TBPTE) will require all licensees to submit their continuing competence activities beginning in February 2012. This decision is to help resolve the large number of failed CC audits, which represent 40% of all disciplinary actions taken by the TBPTE at each meeting. Licensees will enter the name, date, approval number, and number of CCUs granted for each activity during the renewal process. This new step will benefit licensees by helping ensure that they have the required number of approved CCUs and will be in compliance with TBPTE rules. This change is a part of the website redesign which the TBPTE expects to be completed by the end of the year. Please check the TBPTE website for more information.
SIGN THE PETITION FOR PATIENT ACCESS TO PHYSICAL THERAPY
Often referred to as Direct Access, Patient Access to Physical Therapists for treatment currently requires a referral from either a physician, dentist, chiropractor, podiatrist, physician assistant, or an advanced nurse practitioner of any type (midwives, clinical specialists, FNPs). Yet those specifically trained in this area are unable to refer or directly treat consumers for physical therapy. It is time to change the law in Texas. Visit the consumer access to physical therapist web site for more information and to sign the petition at www.AccessYourPhysicalTherapist.com.
